| My name is James "Scott" Hammons and I have a passion for the wilderness and a desire to share my passion with those who wish to enjoy the wilderness. Through my experiences I have found that the wilderness offers an excellent way for a family, father & son, mother & daughter, father & daughter or mother & son to build a good and solid relationship.
I have enjoyed the wilderness and fishing since I was a child. In high school I was turn on to what the outdoors really has to offer in High School when I attended a wilderness school. As I grew older I gained an even greater appreciation of what the wilderness had to offer. I have been fishing, hunting, camping and hiking in Upstate New York since 1990.
My company's name says it all "Preserve the Art of Fishing". I have been fly-fishing, fly-tying and building custom rods for over 20 years and have done this for both freshwater and saltwater. I have spent the last 13 years doing this in Upstate New York for everything from salmon & steelhead to pike & walleye to trout & sunfish.
Through the years I have tried and experimented many different styles of fly-casting most of which was modified versions of the traditional casting stoke - between 9 o'clock and 1 o'clock. I have found a style that anyone can learn and be able to cast with some distance and a great deal of accuracy and prefer to teach it to new students. Because tradition is important and fly-fishing is an art form I do teach both.
I have professionally tied flies for fly shops and built custom fly rods & spinning rods for Preserve the Art of Fishing's customers.
